2017 will mark the 10th anniversary of the Urban Pond Procession and our place-based public arts projects connected to Mashapaug Pond and the Lower Pawtuxet River Watershed. Every year we select a focus for our workshops and events. For our tenth, we have chosen the four important themes or “Stories” covered during the past ten years. These are:

  • the Environmental Story of Mashapaug Pond and polluted waters
    • Mashapaug Pond is Sick
    • Drainage map of Huntington Industrial Park
    • Stormwater walk handout
  • the Industrial Story of Gorham Silver Manufacturing Company and other industries as economic assets and polluters in Providence
    • From Silver Spoons to Shell Casings
    • Gorham images
    • Map of Gorham site remediation
    • Educational materials from the RISD Museum
  • the Indigenous Story as it connects to Mashapaug Pond and Rhode Island waterbodies
    • Rhode Island Knows Now The Narragansett Still Exist
    • How the Birds
    • UPP Arts Storytelling Program
  • the Socioeconomic Story of the 1962 displacement of the West Elmwood neighborhood, once located at the current site of the Huntington Industrial Park
